Here's what must happen first - we must receive our I-171H first from the Atlanta USCIS office (aka "Immigration"). Once upon a time, this only took 2 weeks, now, it seems more like 6-8 but this is still an estimate - maybe sooner (hopefully), maybe later. Once we receive our approval from the US government, we will more than likely, receive our referral almost immediately. We are open to a boy or girl (girls take longer). When we receive our referral we either accept or reject the baby. Assuming we accept, (to make a long story short), we enter into the court system in Guatemala. They conduct birth mother interviews, a DNA match (we also like this part to avoid "baby selling"), a review of our documents, and other court proceedings. This typically takes 4-6 months, although this may vary as well.
In other words, we may have a baby as early as December or as late as spring. Does that help?
We'll update with more specifics as we hit various time markers.
